Luxman

Founded by T. Hayakawa and his brother K. Yoshikawa and began as a radio equipment department of Kinsuido Picture Frame Store in Osaka, Japan in 1925.

During that time, Japanese radio depended on American and European technology, and it appeared that importing parts and equipment presented them gratifying business opportunities. However, in order to reduce importing costs, maximise profits and establish and ‘edge’ over its competitors, Lux Corporation decided to manufacture parts and assemble its own products in house – marking the birth of the Luxman brand.

In pursuit of Ultimate Fidelity, Luxman began from manufacturing transformers and switches, eventually diversifying into the manufacture of high class vacuum tube amplifiers.

The Luxman brand grew to prominence in the Hi Fi community mid 1970’s and early 1990’s due primarily to the outstanding reputation gained by the quality of its products and is now considered as one of the oldest electronic component manufacturers in Japan.

Lux Corporation, aware that the Japanese audio industry was gearing towards cheaper mass-produced components as against Luxman’s founding philosophy, sold the company in 1984 before shifting to the manufacture of the Airtight audio brand. The new owner sought to merge the high end Luxman brand with its own budget brand, as a result, the elitist Luxman brand was co-branded with the cheap budget brand. Apart from raising conflict and confusion amongst existing Luxman dealers and its consumer market, the merger nearly completely destroyed the image, sales and stature of Luxman branded product.

Under a new private Japanese ownership, Lux Corporation was renamed Luxman Corporation in the early 2000’s and made major investments in research and development, with the primary aim of globally re-establishing the high end stature of the Luxman brand.

In 2009, Luxman Corporation was acquired by the International Audio Group [ IAG ] Ltd. IAG will provide its global support and marketing strengths to this famous and iconic brand.

It is worth noting that the person responsible for the development of the top of the line B1000 and C1000 products [ some $90k RRP ] must purchase a set for his home use! Now that’s dedication!

Vincent Audio

It all started with a quite ordinary question from Uwe Bartel, Vincent Audio's electronics engineer and passionate music lover: How do I make High End affordable? The first step, the introduction of the SA-1 valve prestage and the D-150 output stage, made a very quiet sound in the press but one that couldn't be missed. Then it got a bit louder when Vincent expanded its product range and regularly thrilled the specialist press – and music lovers in particular. The rumble was powerful and certainly justified because the new Vincent products were now electronically redesigned and presented in a solid metal housing. Now the Vincent brand is making a really audible bang in the specialist press and putting prestige brands in the shade again and again.

TAC

The Tube Amplifier Company T.A.C. posed a simple question to their design team; why does one have to adjust the bias settings again and again manually after changing the tubes? The solution they came up with was “BIAS regulation” developed in Germany guaranteeing 100% power output at each operating point of the tube during each operating condition. Manual adjustment are not necessary! Add brilliant sound, build quality and engineering and you have a perfect package! The reviewers certainly think so!
